William Bassett Allen (91) left to be with God and his forever love, Alice on July 17, 2024. Bill, as he liked being called, was surrounded by his children as he moved on to his next journey. Bill is preceded in death by his spouse, Alice; his parents, Harold and Talma; and brother Hugh. Bill is survived by his son Jeffrey and wife Michelle, his daughter Darcy Marlow and husband Jeff, his grandchildren Trevor Marlow, Derek and wife Alissa Marlow, Richard Marlow and Elizabeth Marlow. Bill also had three great grandchildren, Olivia, William and Reese Mae. Bill was born to Harold and Talma Allen on June 6, 1933, in Stuart, NE. Spending his first 23 years of his life in Bassett saw him becoming an outstanding athlete, winning numerous gold medals at State in track and field. Bill met Alice Lanz, who became the love of his life while attending Rock County High school. After graduating, Bill attended Nebraska Wesleyan College, majoring in business. Bill became a father to Jeffrey Todd while living in Lincoln. The next 46 years saw Bill living in southern California. It was there that Bill became a father again to his little baby girl Darcy Lynn. Bill went on to become a Senior Vice President at one of the largest banks in America. Bill was always there for his family and friends. Coaching Jeff’s little league and being there when Darcy needed a shoulder to cry on. Most of all, Bill was there to love and cherish his eternal mate, Alice. In 2004, Bill returned to Bassett to spend the rest of his life enjoying what he could never have in California. Bill was very active in the Bassett community over the years, spending endless time helping at the Rock County Leader and delivering meals on wheels to needy neighbors. Bill will always be remembered for his dry sense of humor. He was next to his love Alice on the day she passed in 2020 just as his children were for him. He will be dearly missed but knowing that he is free to be with Alice and his passed loved ones will always warm our hearts.

Joint Memorial Services for Alice and Bill Allen were held Saturday, August 24, 2024 at the Bassett Methodist Church with Pastor Jenice Epp presiding. Military honors were held on the church front lawn for Bill following the memorial service. Inurnment followed in the Bassett Memorial Park Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials have been suggested to the Rock County Historical Society or Rock County Hospital Long Term Care in Bill's name. Hoch Funeral Home of Bassett was in charge of the arrangements. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.hochfunerahome.com.
