Verna R. (Kienke) Appleman

Verna Appleman was born Verna Ruth Kienke on January 11, 1934 at Springview, Nebraska. She passed away at her home near Johnstown, Nebraska on April 22, 2020 at the age of 86.
Verna was the fourth daughter of five girls born to Ernest W. and Gertrude C. (Propst) Kienke. Verna married John T. Appleman on May 15, 1954 at Burke, South Dakota. To this union four children were born: Loren, Lana, Lila, and Leonard.
Verna was preceded in death by her parents; two granddaughters and one great-grandson. She leaves to mourn, John, her husband of 65 years; four children, Loren (laurel) of Johnstown, Lana (Gary) Hauck of Utica, South Dakota, Lila DeRaad of Uganda and Leonard (Kim) of Johnstown. She is survived by 15 grand-children and numerous great-grandchildren. Verna is also survived by her four sisters, Laura Anne Cronk Wilson of Burton, Nebraska, Evelyn Snow of Kearney, Nebraska, Donnabelle Leonhardt of Riverton, Wyoming and Eunice Dowling Skinner of Napa, California; along with nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Private Graveside Services were held on Saturday, April 25, 2020 at the Ainsworth Cemetery. Paul Haakenson and Marge Major officiated at the service. Granddaughter Sarah Chafee played the organ at the viewing. Casketbearers were: Verna’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the family in Verna’s name to be designated later.
