Mr. Thomas Wayne "Tom" Nelson

Thomas Wayne "Tom" Nelson was born on March 4, 1958 to Donald Wayne and Josephine (Watkins) Nelson at Oskaloosa, Iowa. He passed away on February 16, 2016 at the Rock County Hospital.
Tom served in the United States Army for four years and 11 months. His last duty assignment was HHC 2nd Bn 8th Cav 1 CD Forscom FC. He was a M48-M60 Armor Tank Crewman.
Tom is preceded in death by his father, Donald Wayne Nelson and sister, Kathy Kay Myers. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Kay Nelson of Bassett; Step-son, Christopher (Tiffany Rae) Dunn of Muir, Michigan; Mother, Josephine "Jo" Watkins of Easley, South Carolina; Son, Danil Nelson of Atlanta, Georgia; Sisters, Peg (Ted) Myers of Easley, South Carolina, Tammy (David) Vos of Oskaloosa, Iowa and Jamie (Joel) Wymore of Bellevue, Nebraska; Brother, Bobby (Stacey) Curry of Linn Creek, Missouri; along with several nieces and nephews. Tom was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services were held on February 22, 2016 at the St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Bassett, Nebraska with Father Randy Goeke officiating the service. Music was provided by Mike Skulavik. Congregational selections provided were, "Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee", "How Firm A Foundation", and "Amazing Grace". Pallbearers were Tom Sawyer, Craig Brown, Barry Lewis, Jim Anderson, Walter Rouse and Mike Skulavik. Interment was held at the Bassett Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors being presented by Bassett American Legion Post #123. Memorials were suggested to the family in his name. Hoch Funeral Home of Bassett assisted with the arrangements.
