OBITUARY FOR TERESA L. “TESS” (SPIES) FURDEN
Teresa (Tess) Lynn (Spies) Furden age 67 of Barnard TWP, Maine, passed away October 22, 2019 at the Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine of ovarian cancer.
Tess was born February 6, 1952 in Ainsworth, Nebraska to Carl and Phyllis (McDaniel) Spies. She graduated high school then joined the Air Force in November of 1972. She retired from the service in 1992 and was hired by the United States Postal Service where she worked in Brownville, Maine until retiring again in 2013.
Tess’s biggest joy was the dogs she rescued and raised. She also enjoyed travel and spent much of her spare time while stationed in Germany visiting different countries. Reading and gardening were hobbies she never tired of.
Tess is survived by her mother Phyllis Skillman, Ainsworth; sisters Barbara (Doug) Kloepping, Lexington, Peggy (Jerry) Funk, Ainsworth and Brandi (Scott) Pirnie, Ainsworth; stepsisters Janet (Larry) Mcneel, Lincoln and Katherine (Vernon) Counts, Cozad; Gene Furden good friend/ex-husband, Sebec, ME and former sister-in-Law Peggy (Robert) Curran, West Roxbury, MA and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Tess in death was her father Carl Spies; stepmother Glenda Spies and stepfather Don Skillman; nephew Shon Kloepping; former father and mother-in-law John and Margaret Furden, brothers-in-law Jackie and Daniel Furden and sister-in-law Ann Barden all of West Roxbury, MA.
A Memorial Service was held Saturday, December 7, 2019 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Ainsworth with Pastor Georg Williams officiating. Music will be provided by Georgia Williams with the congregation singing, “I’m But A Stranger Here, Heaven Is My Home” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” Inurnment followed in the Ainsworth Cemetery with military honors conducted by Ainsworth American Legion Post #79.
