Sue Ellen Hallock was born September 18, 1946, in Ainsworth, NE, to Glen A. and Ruth G. (Jamison) Hallock and passed away on August 2, 2024.
She had two sisters, Connie and Betty, and two brothers, Ernest and Steve. Sue attended the country school near the family home and graduated from Keya Paha County High School in 1964.
Upon graduation, she attended Chadron State College and taught four years in Keya Paha County rural schools. Sue spent her evenings and Saturday’s waiting tables at her mother's restaurant, Ruth’s Café. This is where she met her future husband, Ben Weston, who had recently been discharged from the Air Force.
Ben and Sue were married on November 19th, 1966, at Springview, NE. They spent their entire married life on the WB Ranch where she was instrumental in every aspect from the finances to putting up the hay. She spent countless hours cooking meals for her family and hired help. After the boys graduated college, she worked alongside Ben nearly every single day.
Sue was a devoted mother to Michael, Ryan, and Brent and proud of daughters-in-law, Christie, Carmen, and Melissa. Tristan, Jack, Anna, and Isabelle were, of course, the best grandkids ever! She loved baking cookies, brownies, and cinnamon rolls for family and friends. She made countless birthday and wedding cakes. She maintained lasting memories with former students from the country schools and those that knew her as a substitute teacher.
Sue was actively involved in the Springview Methodist Church and American Legion Auxiliary for 50 years. She was always interested in and promoted education. In addition to teaching, she served on the Keya Paha Library and ESU #17 boards. Sue and Ben loved to travel. They saw many parts of the world together before and during their “retirement” years. In 2016, she reached a personal goal of visiting all 50 States including wonderful memories in Alaska and Hawaii plus many great bus trips. Sue and Ben enjoyed numerous cruises and bucket list adventures to Mexico, Italy, South Africa and Machu Picchu. She fought cancer three times in her life and yet still became Ben’s caregiver.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Betty Chrans. She is survived by sons, Michael (and wife, Christie) Weston of Lincoln, NE, Ryan (and wife, Carmen) Weston of Arlington, VA, and Brent (and wife, Melissa) Weston of Hastings, NE; four grandchildren, Tristan, Jack, Anna, and Isabelle; sister, Connie (Gale) Larrington; and brothers, Ernest (Karen) Hallock, and Steve (Chris) Hallock all of Springview; along with many nieces, nephews and other family members.
Funeral Service was held on Thursday, August 8, 2024 in the Springview Methodist Church, officiated by Pastor Jenice Epp. Music was provided by Joan Swan singing “Hymn of Promise,” “In The Garden,” and “I’ll Fly Away.” Casket Bearers were Darrin Larrington, Brian Larrington, Eric Chrans, Johnny Lee, Dustin Weber, Eric Johnson, Dan Hallock, Perto Razon, Scott Hallock, Keith Hallock, and Jason Chrans.
