Steve Selvig, age 77, passed away on December 6, 2024 at his home in Bassett, NE in the Sandhills where he spent many years hunting for upland game birds with his favorite being grouse. People often asked, “Why did you move from Colorado Springs to Bassett?” His response was, “Bassett chose us!”
Steve was born and raised in Sioux Falls, SD, a son of Lauritz “Larry” and Ethel (Hendricks) Selvig. He worked with his father in the floor covering business as a youth, he then moved on to a lifetime of working in the trucking industry.
Steve loved the great outdoors and enjoyed hunting, hiking, fishing, camping, gardening, old cars, birding, telling stories, a good whiskey, a strong cup of coffee with cream, and above all, his family.
Steve leaves behind many great hunting buddies, many great friends, his excellent sense of humor, his hearty laugh and an array of amazing stories, adventures and memories. His life was well-lived, and he was very loved by his family and friends. He rarely met a stranger that he couldn’t start a conversation with and our lives will never be the same without him.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Barbara (Swane) Selvig; his brother, William “Bill” Selvig; and two brothers-in-law, Larry De Thury and Richard “Dick’ Estensen.
He is survived by his wife, Ann (Sears) Selvig of Bassett; his son, Christopher Selvig (LeAnn Baca Bartlett) of Colorado Springs, CO; his daughter, Tracy Selvig (Johnny Bohnen) of Colorado Springs; grandchildren, Madelyn Selvig (Devon Mundell), Ruby Selvig, Parker Bohnen, Lula Selvig and Opal Selvig; one great-grandson, Sebastian Mundell; step-son, Cory Archer (Leah) of Buckley, WA; two step-daughters, Marissa Lisi (Will) of Fort Collins, CO and Elizabeth Murphy (Kyle) of Bartow, FL; step-grandchildren, Courtney Archer, Adelyn Lisi, Abigail Archer, Benjamin Lisi, and Cameron Murphy; his sisters, Sherry Estensen of Eden Prairie, MN and Terry Fritz of Roseville, MN; his mother-in-law, Carol Sears of Lees Summit, MO; three sisters-in-law, Mary Selvig of Minneapolis, MN, Carol De Thury of Sioux Falls, and Cyndie (Jeff) Sikalis of Lees Summit; two brothers-in-law, Gary (Carol) Swane of Yankton, SD, and Mark (Wanda) Sears of Ocala, FL; and his many beloved nieces, nephews and their children.
At Steve’s request, no formal funeral services will be held, but a Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring of 2025 at “The Gate” in Brown County, NE.
