Stella M. Thompson was born March 21, 1927 to Albert and Mollie (May) Gale at their home northwest of Bassett, Nebraska. She graduated from Rock County High School with the class of 1945. Stella was united in marriage to Charles Thompson on June 24, 1947. To this union 4 children were born, Judy, Linda, Mary and Rowdy.
Stella enjoyed crocheting, knitting, making sweaters for many family members. She always raised a big garden and enjoyed canning many vegetables for her family.
Stella was a member of the Newport NightinGals Extension Club and The Northern Lites Social Club and held various offices. Stella received a pin for her 70 years of being an Eastern Star member in 2017, being one of the oldest members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles, son Rowdy, grandson Christopher Kaup, brothers Bill Gale and his wife Elgene and Kenneth Gale and his wife Lavonne; sisters-in-law, Mable Friedrich and husband Harry, Florence Dorsey and husband Charles, and Minnie Hooks and husband Elton; brothers-in-law, Harvey Thompson and Earl Thompson and wife Vera.
Stella is survived by daughters, Judy (Bob) Keck, Linda Thompson and Mary (Steve) Kaup, all of Newport, Nebraska; grandchildren, Conrad (Aletha) Keck, Todd (Gloria) Keck, Kayla Andal, Jennifer (Kevin) Hostert, Matthew (Rachel) Kaup and Elizabeth (Randy) Sommerer; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sister-in-law, Eva Thompson of Omaha, Nebraska and nieces, nephews and other family members.
A Private Family Graveside Memorial Service was held on Monday, September 13, 2021 at the Bassett Memorial Park Cemetery in Bassett with Pastor Gary Graesser officiating at the service. Pastor and Mrs. Gary Graesser led the song, “Mansion O’re The Hilltop.” Casket Bearers were members of Stella’s Family. Honorary Casket Bearers were the members of Bethany Chapter #113 Order of the Eastern Star. Memorials have been suggested to the Newport Fire Department or to the Donor’s Choice in Stella’s name.
