On the evening of April 29, 2019, Ruby Marie (Slattery) Porter passed away at the age of 88 at the Avera St. Anthony Hospital in O’Neill, Nebraska.
Ruby was born to Thomas and Lillian (Robinson) Slattery on a farm near Bassett, Nebraska on March 29, 1931. After completing the eighth grade, she remained on the farm and helped her family. On December 6, 1949 she married Arthur Frank Porter and to this union three sons were born.
Ruby was a hard worker and loved spending time with her family. She was an avid reader and truly enjoyed her westerns and crossword puzzles.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son Martin Porter. She is survived by her sons Arthur Porter and special friend Margaret Walton of Long Pine, Nebraska and Rodney Porter of Douglas Wyoming. Daughters-in-law, Dixie Hansen and husband Lee also of Douglas, and Lora Hansen Porter of Greenville, South Carolina. 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 1-great-great-granddaughter. Sisters, Elizabeth “Liz” Strand of Ainsworth, Nebraska and Goldie Kubo of Fremont, Nebraska. Numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Graveside Memorial Services were held on May 4, 2019 at the Grandview Cemetery in Long Pine, Nebraska with Pastor Dennis Quigley officiating the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials were suggested to the family in Ruby’s name for a future designation. Hoch Funeral Home of Bassett, Nebraska were in charge of the arrangements.
