Phillip D. Herring, 80, found his peace in the comforting arms of our Lord and was finally able to rest on August 6, 2024.

 

Phillip Donald Herring was born August 19, 1943 in Ainsworth, NE to William Henry and Lois Fern (Williamson) Herring. Phil’s childhood was blessed with a brother, Bill, and sister, Connie. Phil went to high school in Ainsworth, where he enjoyed playing football and baseball. Right after he graduated high school, he joined the Marine Corps on May 31, 1961 until he was honorably discharged on April 23, 1965. Phil married Beverly J. Radamacher and to this union there were three children born, Patrick, Kim, and Phil, Jr. Phil enjoyed playing softball during his adult life. After many years of marriage, Beverly passed away in November of 2000. Phil remarried Karen Didier in 2002 where he gained three stepchildren, Gary, Renae, and Lyn.

 

Phil worked at the Ainsworth Irrigation District for 42 years. In his spare time he loved to fish, hunt, and trap with his children and grandchildren.

 

Phil’s faith in God was very important to him and he was an active member of Zion Lutheran church where he had served as an elder and he was also very active in other areas of his church.

 

Phil was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lois Herring; in-laws, Hick and Katie Radamacher; wife, Beverly Herring; son, Phillip Herring, Jr.; sister, Connie Tate; and stepson, Gary Didier. He leaves behind, his wife, Karen, of Ainsworth; son Pat (Lisa) Herring of Atkinson, NE and their four children, Dillon, Caleb, Dakota, and Dalton; daughter, Kim (Rick) Wiseman of Grand Island, NE and their three children, Kia, Derek, and Lindsey; stepdaughter, Renae Glidden of Ainsworth, and her two children, Amber (Nathan) Reed, and Ryan Nahrstedt; stepdaughter, Lyn (Ken) Swinford of Lone Tree, CO and their two children, Brandy (Elliott) Lyons and Autumn Reida; brother, Bill (Olivia) Herring of Bar Harbor, WA. Phil is also survived by 19 great grandchildren, nephews and nieces, along with a whole community of friends.

 

 

 

 

Funeral Services were held Saturday, August 10, 2024 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Ainsworth, officiated by Pastor L. W. Christensen. Music was provided by Georgia Williams accompanying congregational hymns “Abide With Me” and “Just As I Am”. Casketbearers were Dillon Cleary, Dakota Herring, Caleb Herring, Dalton Herring, Ryan Lambley, and Derek Wiseman. Honorary Casketbearers were Cory Lambley and Ross Lambley. Interment followed in the Lutheran Cemetery with military honors provided by Ainsworth American Legion Post #79 and the United States Marines Funeral Home Team. Memorials were suggested to the Zion Lutheran Church in Phillip’s name.
