Michael Ray Leicher, beloved husband of Carolyn Joan (Gauthreaux) Leicher passed away peacefully at home in Ainsworth Nebraska, surrounded by his family on July 8, 2021 at the age of 72.
Michael was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on December 6, 1948. He was raised in Long Beach, California, spending his summers in Louisiana. After graduation from high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps - serving for four years. He is a Vietnam veteran.
After leaving the Marine Corps, Michael moved to Houma, Louisiana. In 1975 he married the love of his life Carolyn. He began to work for Santa Fe Offshore Construction Company, which later became Global Industries. After 42 years, he retired as Procurement Manager.
Michael was an avid hunter and fisherman. Some of his fondest memories were with his son and grandson over many expeditions. He enjoyed woodworking, and was a collector of Native American artifacts. He loved traveling the country, making his way through 46 states. Michael, having a large extended family, enjoyed the many family get-togethers. Mike particularly enjoyed his grandchildren. He loved to be with them in person and on video chat. And he relished watching his granddaughter carry on his tradition of running cross country.
He was preceded in death by his father Harold Leicher, mother Ramona Champagne Lowe, step father John Lowe, and a brother-in-law Jimmy Jordan; in-laws, Ronald Gauthreaux Sr., Norma Q. Gauthreaux, Ronald Gauthreaux Jr., Lora H Gauthreaux, and Hallie Gauthreaux.
Michael is survived by his wife Carolyn; son, Jon (Tiffany) Leicher; daughter, Ryanne (RL) Kerrigan; and seven grandchildren: Kat, Ryan, and Cecilia Kerrigan, Ali Graffeo, Julia, Reagan, and Kennedy Leicher. He is also survived by his brothers; Bryan (Shari) Leicher, Craig (Mona) Leicher; sisters, Lynell Jordan, Yvonne (Jeff) Crow, Monice Lowe; in-laws, Mike Gauthreaux (Pam), Norman Gauthreaux (Mary), Stephen Gauthreaux (Mary B.), Gerard Gauthreaux, Danny Gauthreaux, Donald Gauthreaux (Margaret), Miles Gauthreaux (Robin), Janet Gauthreaux, and Kay S. Gauthreaux and numerous nieces and nephews.
Michael had a wonderful life and said he “had no regrets.” A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, (August 7, 2021) at 11:00 AM at the St. Ann Catholic Church ~ 4355 LA-24 ~ Bourg, Louisiana 70343. Visitations will be held one hour (10-11am) prior to services. A reception will follow in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been suggested to the family in Michael’s name for future designation.
