Lyle "Jack" Jones was born north of Ainsworth on December 25, 1923 to John and Mary (Waits) Jones, the youngest of 10 children. Jack graduated from high school in Ainsworth, NE.
He entered US Army-Infantry September 8, 1945. He trained at Camp Roberts, California and served overseas. He was honorably discharged January 17, 1947.
On February 4, 1947 Jack was united in married to Dorothy E. Allen of Ainsworth, NE. Jack and Dorothy bought a farm north of Ainsworth and started farming and raising cattle. To this union they were blessed with five children; Lynda "Beanie", Keith, Sandra, Gary and Susan.
Jack and Dorothy sold the farm to their son Gary and moved into town. Jack did some carpenter and mechanic work. He always had time to go fishing. One of his favorite things to do was take his grandchildren fishing. He always knew where the best fishing ponds were. He loved his music, and although he couldn't read music he could play about any instrument that he picked up. He loved teaching his grandchildren to play the piano. Jack and Dorothy played for dances at Johnstown, NE, Carlock, SD, Miller, NE as well as playing for the Ainsworth Care Center and Cottonwood Villa in their later years.
After Dorothy's passing in May of 2012 Jack's health started failing fast. He then moved to Parkside Manor in Stuart, NE and then moved to the Alzheimer's unit in the VA home in Norfolk, NE. While there he was cared for by some very special people.
Jack is survived by children Sandy (Dan) Clapper of Johnstown; Gary (Shari) Jones of Ainsworth; Sue Porter of Ainsworth, 19 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Other survivors include one sister-in-law Wauneta Keller of North Platte, nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, son Keith, daughter Lynda "Beanie" Hollenbeck, son-in-law Larry Hollenbeck, parents, 2 sisters, 7 brothers, 1 great granddaughter, 1 great grandson.
Graveside services were held at the Ainsworth Cemetery with Pastor Mick Thornton officiating the service. Pallbearers were, Rob Hollenbeck, Craig Hollenbeck, Brian Hollenbeck, Trent Hollenbeck, Roudy Clapper, Shane Clapper, Thad Jones, and Casey Jones. Honorary bearers were, Krisitne Sargent, Melissa Jones, Sephara Jones, Jackie Jones, Roxanne Philben, Becky Mizner, Maegan Urban, Aimy Esterly, Darcy Provance, Martha Fletcher, and Marti Turner. Military Honors were provided by the Ainsworth American Legion Post #79. Hoch Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials were suggested to the Norfolk's Veteran Home or to the Ainsworth American Legion.
