LaVonne "Vonnie" Pauline Polen, 77 years, of Valley, NE passed away Sunday, August 25, 2019 at Valhaven Nursing Home in Valley, NE. Vonnie was born October 6, 1941 in Valentine, NE to Walter Harry "Buck" and Naoma M. (Spencer) Polen. Vonnie gave her life to Jesus at a very young age and kept faithful all of her life.
Vonnie lived with her family on a farm east of Valentine until the fall of 1947. They moved to Springview that fall and in 1951 they moved to Bassett. Vonnie grew up and went to school there. Vonnie and her mother moved to Saunders House in Wahoo in 2006. She also lived at Orchard Gardens in Valley, NE and Premier Estates in Fremont, until moving to Valhaven in June of this year. Her health started to fail soon after that.
Vonnie enjoyed reading, knitting, crosswords, and word search. She collected stuffed animals, mainly cats and dogs. She worked for a while at the Range Cafe in Bassett. She also helped her mother, Naoma, in her cafes through the years helping to cook, doing dishes and anything else that needed to be done.
Vonnie is survived by her brother, Marlowe M. and wife Phyllis Polen of Cedar Bluffs, NE; sister-in-law, Barb Polen of Loup City, NE ; aunt, Mabel Braun of Atkinson and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Harriet and husband Lowell Peterson; brothers, Walter Jr. "Harry" and wife Jan Polen, Albert Polen, and Dewey Kerwin Polen; nephews, Keith Polen, Skip Polen, Kevin Peterson, and Kirk Peterson.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at Moser Memorial
Chapel in Fremont, NE. Andy Keuhn and Jonathan MacDonald officiated the service.

Graveside service was held at the Bassett Memorial Park Cemetery on August 30, 2019. Drayton Cronk officiated the service. Marlowe Polen also spoke. The songs, “Jesus Lives In Me” and “Sweet, Sweet Release” were sung. Pallbearers were Rob Polen, John Adams, LaRon Peterson, Mark Peterson, Ronnie Davis, and Hunter Polen and other family members.
