Joseph D. "Joey" Belmont

Joseph Dale Belmont was born on January 14, 1957 in Anadarko, Oklahoma to Jim and Aloha (Lanz) Belmont. Joey was the youngest of four children. He moved to Nebraska when he was 14, and graduated from Rock County High School at Bassett in 1975. Joey married Bonnie Crist on June 28, 1975 at Ainsworth. They had four children together: Jody, Sonya, Nackea and Theodore. Together Joey and Bonnie also raised many, many other children including those who still claim them as family: Rich (Robin) Pospisil, Randy Teboe, Tabitha Belmont, Eric Bechtold, Amber Ogden, Lorretta (Tad) Glidden and Brandon and Dalton Gilbert.
Joey passed away at home north of Newport surrounded by those he loved most. He was preceded in death by his father, Jim Belmont; mother and step-father, Aloha and Joe Copeland; his brothers, James and Danny Belmont; his sister, Debbie Goodfellow; and a son-in-law, Shamus Hartgrave. He leaves mourn his passing, his wife, Bonnie of Newport; four children, Jody (Steve) Anderson of Ceresco, Nebraska, Sonya Hartgrave of Bassett, Nackea (Kip) Gillis of Newport and Theodore (Kayla) Belmont of Madison, Nebraska. He is also survived by nine grandchildren that meant the world to him along with numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

A Graveside Service was held on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 in the Bassett Memorial Park Cemetery. Family members of Joey officiated at the service. Casketbearers were: Rich Pospisil, T.J. Belmont, Eric Bechtold, Casey Hughbanks, Jesse Belmont, Steve Anderson, Corey Goodfellow, Kip Gillis, Corbin Gillis and Kyle Gillis. Honorary Casketbearers were: All of Joey’s Grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials were suggested to the family in Joey’s name for a future designation.
