John Wesley Dodds, age 70, passed away at home on January 16, 2025, in Ainsworth, Nebraska. He was born to Frank "Doc" and Renona (Reed) Dodds on June 22, 1954, as the second of a set of twins.
John graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1972, where he participated in rodeo activities, riding broncs and bulls. He earned a trophy at the state finals in bull riding.
He met his wife, Bonnie J. Teter, at a dance in Thedford, Nebraska, and they were married on July 25, 1973. Together, they had two children: Christina Lynn and Cory John..
Throughout his career, John held various jobs, including serving as a dispatcher for the State Patrol, working with the Forest Service in Superior, Montana, working in construction, and owning a hunting and fishing store called Spring Creek Outpost in Ainsworth. John had a passion for fishing, hunting, and golfing, and he loved animals, always having a dog and cat around.
John was preceded in death by his father, Frank "Doc" Dodds; mother, Renona Dodds; grandparents; and his brothers-in-law, Shaun Schipporeit and Mike Flynn.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Dodds; daughter, Christina Paddock and significant other, Jason Stec; son, Cory (Michelle) Dodds; grandchildren; Shylo Paddock and significant other, Luke Pullara, Emmett Paddock, Ayden Dodds and Bridger Dodds; brothers, Spud Dodds, Steve (Lindsey) Dodds, Jim (Penny) Dodds, Dave Dodds and significant other, Brittni Hart, and Ford (Kodi) Dodds; sisters, Mary Hite, Cathi Flynn, Cindy (Dean) Churchill, Diane (Chop) Watts, and Neena (Allen) Miller; brother-in-law, Jim (Betty) Teter, along with several nieces, nephews and other family members.
Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at the Hoch Funeral Home in Ainsworth with Pastor Russell Thayer officiating at the service. The CD Selection “He Stopped Loving Her Today” by George Jones was played. A special guitar solo recording by Jim Dodds, titled, “Fields of Athenry” was also played. Memorials were suggested to the family for a future designation. Inurnment will occur at a later date in the Ainsworth Cemetery.
