Hazel Westover Engle was born at home in Ainsworth, Nebraska on October 27, 1923 to Vern and Beulah (Smith) Westover. She was raised in Ainsworth where she met Turk Engle of Springview, Nebraska and they married on October 26, 1940. They raised five children in Ainsworth. Hazel has been involved with the Ainsworth Senior Center, DOES Drove #54, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Hospital Auxiliary and Park Homes for many years.
She is survived by three children, Frank Engle and wife Barbara of Wheatland, Oregon, Charylene Cleveland of Rupert, Idaho, Cheryl Fellenberg and husband Jim of Libby, Montana; one sister Ramona Piper of Kaysville, Utah; one sister-in-law, Sharron Westover of Ashland, Nebraska; one niece, Venita Hagerman of Ainsworth; and one daughter-in-law, Madonna Taylor of Unionville, Virginia, along with eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other nieces and nephews. She will eternally rest beside her husband at the Ainsworth Cemetery.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Hoch Funeral Home in Ainsworth. Pastor David Randall officiated the service. Special CD music selections of "Amazing Grace" by the Statler Brothers and "Go Rest High On That Mountain" by Vince Gill were provided. Pallbearers were, Frank Engle Jr., Vern Westover, Vince Cleveland, Donald Moody, Brad Moody, Rick Goochey, Ken Smith, and Bill Haskell. Honorary Bearers were all of Hazel's other family and friends. Organizational Rites were given by the DOES Drove #54. Burial followed at the Ainsworth Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials were suggested to the Ainsworth Senior Center, Ainsworth DOES Drove #54, Ainsworth American Legion Auxiliary #79, or to the Brown County Hospital Auxiliary.
