Glenda J. (McGuire) Gilliland, 66, of Long Pine, Nebraska passed away Sunday, September 25, 2016, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, after a short battle with cancer. She was born December 17, 1949 in Bassett, Nebraska to Alex "Deck" and Bernice (Jones) McGuire. She attended Bassett Elementary School and graduated in 1968 from Rock County High School. On August 18, 1969 she married Theodore "Ted" Gilliland. To this marriage two children were born: Christine K., and Travis W. She held a variety of jobs over the years which included Cornhusker Archery in Bassett, Anderson's Market in Long Pine, and most recently, the Ainsworth Care Center.
Glenda enjoyed listening to country-western music, spending time with her family, camping and doing various crafts. For many years she was known as the "cake lady," decorating cakes for all occasions.
She is survived by her children, Christine and husband Tim Peters, of Norfolk, Nebraska; son, Travis and wife Stacey Gilliland of Ainsworth, Nebraska; four grand daughters, Kirsten and Cassidy Gilliland, and Ellie and MacKenzie Peters; sisters, Elva Buoy, Long Pine, Ellen Jackson, Bassett, Maxine and husband LuVern Olberding, of Stuart, Nebraska; sisters-in-law, Judy McGuire of Valentine, Nebraska, Theresa McGuire of Bowlus, Minnesota, Barbara and husband Delbert Fullerton of Gothenburg, Nebraska, Carole and husband Mike Witt, of Valentine, and Jeanne and husband Ken Smith of Ainsworth. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted; her parents, Alex and Bernice; brothers, Harold McGuire and Doug McGuire; and sister, Dorothy Wheeler.
Memorial services were held at the Hoch Funeral Home of Ainsworth, Nebraska with Pastor David Randall officiating the service. CD selections of "To Where You Are" by Josh Grobin, "Home" by Joe Diffie, and "When I Get Where I'm Going" by Brad Paisley were provided. Special remarks were provided by Rick Buoy. Inurnment followed at the Grandview Cemetery in Long Pine, Nebraska. Memorials were suggested to the family in her name for a future designation.
