Glen Eugene Baker was born in Omaha on January 17, 1928 and passed away on September 1, 2023 at the age of 95 in Bassett Nebraska.
He was adopted by Will and Myrtle Baker of Ainsworth. Glen became a good athlete in high school playing football and basketball and running track.
Mary Kern’s family moved to Ainsworth in 1944 and the two of them met at church. Upon high school graduation, Glen immediately enlisted in the Navy. They married that same year on September 4, 1945.
After his Navy discharge, Glen schooled at Norfolk Junior College where he played on their basketball team. After Glen graduated, they moved back to Ainsworth. For thirty years, he worked at Bassett Motors as bookkeeper and parts manager, retiring in 1990.
Mary and Glen were long-time members of the Ainsworth United Methodist Church where they both enjoyed singing in the choir for seventy years.
The Ainsworth Senior Center became their daily routine for lunch and socializing. Glen delivered meals for the center for 25 years.
Glen is preceded in death by wife Mary, son Don, and granddaughter Andrea (Baker) Kabourek.
He is survived by his son Ken and wife Estelle, daughter-in-law Audrey Baker, grandchildren Jill Brandt, James Baker, Megan Baker, and great-grandchildren Amelia Brandt, Adam Brandt, and Sierra Baker.
Graveside Services were held Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Ainsworth Cemetery with Pastor Mike Eurit officiating at the service. Following the service, full Military Honors were performed by Ainsworth American Legion Post #79. Memorials are suggested to Ainsworth Senior Center or AseraCare Hospice Program in Glen’s name.
