Geraldine Maxine (Dye) Anderson was born on January 19, 1933 to Merle and Leola (Davis) Dye in a sod house near Rose, Nebraska. She died on February 8, 2022 at the Rock County Hospital Long Term Care in Bassett, Nebraska.
Geraldine graduated from Rock County High School in 1951. On September 10, 1950 she married Lyle (Bud) Anderson at Bassett. During the Korean War, Bud was stationed at Fort Belvoir, Virginia at which time a son James was born. After being discharged from the service, Bud and Geraldine relocated back to Bassett, where Genia and Lesa were born.
Geraldine did odd jobs for people, cleaning houses, ironing and raising pigs. In July of 1967 she started carrying mail for the United States Postal Service and retired in July of 2008. Geraldine saw a lot of changes in the 41 years of being a mail carrier. She also sold Tupperware for many years. Geraldine was a member of the United Methodist Church for several years.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, LaVerne and sister, Garnet. Geraldine is survived by her children; son, James (Carla) Anderson of Bassett; daughters, Genia (Fred) Ripley of Omaha, NE and Lesa (Timothy) Melton of Salem, SD; grandchildren, Greg DeBolt of Lincoln, NE, Karisa (Justin) Eggleston of Ceresco, NE, Melanie (Gary) Myers of Sioux Falls, SD, Kaylin (Brian) Schamber of Omaha, Donald (Lucie) Ripley of Omaha, Natasha Melton of Huron, SD, and Nichole (Tanner) Snedeker of Woonsocket, SD; and six great-grandchildren, Madison DeBolt, Dylan and Derek Schamber, William and Raleigh Ripley and Stetson Snedeker; along with other family members.
Funeral Services were held on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at the United Methodist Church in Bassett, Nebraska with Pastor Jeanie Leeper officiated at the service. The music was provided by Faye Smith. The congregational Hymns of “Here I Am Lord, and “Hymn Of Promise” were played. The song, “Amazing Grace” was sung by Kaylin Schamber. Interment followed at the Grandview Cemetery in Long Pine, Nebraska. Casket Bearers were: Greg DeBolt, Karisa Eggleston, Melanie Myers, Kaylin Schamber, Donald Ripley, Natasha Melton and Nichole Snedeker. Memorials were suggested to the Rock County Hospital Long Term Care, the Bassett Volunteer Fire Department or to the United Methodist Church in Geraldine’s name.
