Faye E. (Bennett) Saar was born March 16, 1949 in Bassett, Nebraska to Dallas R. Bennett and Lois N. (Krause) Bennett. She graduated from Rock County High School in 1967 and spent two years at Kearney State College. She married Gary Saar on June 7, 1969 at Bassett. Two children were born to this union, Jayme and Jered.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Finance Secretary for the church, along with various other offices within the church. She liked all kinds of crafts and was President of the local art club. Faye was a member of the Nite Owls Extension Club. She joined the Sandhills Quilt Guild and was an avid quilter. She also loved to read and participated in the Rock County Library Book Club.
Faye was a stay-at-home mother until Jered started school. It was then that she started her postal career and worked at the Bassett Post Office for 35 years.
Faye passed away on August 12, 2021 after a long battle with mesothelioma. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dallas and Lois Bennett. Faye was survived by her husband, Gary Saar of Bassett; their two children, Jayme (Steve) Hansen of Bassett and Jered (Shelly) Saar of Kearney, Nebraska; two grandchildren, Jenna Hansen of Bassett and Jakob Shaul of Kearney; her sister, Jaci (Jim) Harmon of Atkinson, Nebraska; along with various nieces, nephews, family and numerous friends.
The Celebration of life service has held on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at the United Methodist Church in Bassett with Pastor Jeanie Leeper and Pastor Jenice Epp officiating. Music was provided by JoAnn Swanson playing congregational hymns, “Morning Has Broken” and “Hymn Of Promise”. The CD selection of “Whispering Hope” by Jim Reeves was also played. Memorials were suggested to the Bassett Tree Board, the Rock County Library or to the United Methodist Church of Bassett in her name. A Private Family Inurnment will follow at a later date in the Bassett Memorial Park Cemetery.
