Evelyn Florence Freeman, 89, departed this world for Heaven on March 27, 2014 while a resident at Park View Haven, Coleridge, NE. Her son, Dwayne Freeman, comforted her and was at her side during the time of her passing.
Evelyn was born in Bassett, NE on July 16, 1924, and with her daughters, Yvonne and Judy, Evelyn was planning her 90th birthday celebration coming up this summer. Evelyn's parents, John and Mary Lucht, gave Evelyn and her siblings a life full of love and country fun as they lived on a homestead near Bone Creek, not far from Bassett. As a youngster, she enjoyed horseback riding with her horse, Buster, along with singing, playing the guitar, school dramas and dancing whenever she could, and getting teased by her many brothers.
In 1942 in Bassett, NE, Evelyn married Melvin D. Freeman of Norfolk, NE. Married for 62 years, Evelyn & Melvin raised their 3 children, Dwayne, Yvonne, and Judy while living mainly in the Ainsworth and Norfolk area. During their various years together they loved to dance, play cards, and used their travel trailer for fishing and sight seeing. They finally settled in Long Pine, NE after living a few years in Arizona. Their garden and the many family and friends who came to visit brought great joy to Evelyn. She was known as a great cook who served delicious meals to all who entered their home. There was always a friendly card game or other fun table game going on when visitors came. Her children always knew there would be huge love hugs when they arrived and tears when they had to leave. She loved "life" and embraced her family, her walks, the changes in nature, and being part of a community. Toward Evelyn's later years, she was blessed to attend the Ainsworth Evangelical Free Church where Pastor Mick and Evelyn developed a meaningful relationship throughout the rest of her life. Preceding her in death was her husband, Melvin D. Freeman, brothers: Ed, Walter, Alfred, Elmer, Roy, and her sister, Esther Wilcox. Her surviving family include: her sister, Myrtle Faist of Denver, CO; her children and their families: Dwayne Freeman of Laurel, NE, daughters Yvonne Ginder and Judy Eidson of Phoenix, AZ. There are three grandchildren with their families: Michael Freeman, Angela Barnell, and John Freeman. All together there are eight great grandchildren. Unfortunately not all beloved family members can be listed who make up the many in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews.
"A life well-lived honors the Creator of all life"
A life well lived is a precious gift
Of hope and strength and grace,
From someone who has made our world
A brighter, better place
It's filled with moments, sweet and sad
With smiles and sometimes tears,
With friendships formed and good times shared
And laughter through the years.
A life well lived is a legacy
Of joy and pride and pleasure,
A living, lasting memory
Our grateful hearts we'll treasure The family is deeply grateful for the out pouring of love, prayers, and support in many heart-felt forms from too many people to name individually, but including Park View Haven Care Center in Coleridge, NE, Ainsworth Evangelical Free Church, and Hoch Funeral Home, Ainsworth, NE.
