Evan Wesley Lane

Evan Wesley Lane was born May 1, 1917 to Owen and Norma (Tuttle) Lane at the Lane Ranch northeast of Newport, Nebraska, where he lived his lifetime. He attended two grade schools and graduated from Newport High School. He worked with his father raising cattle and farming his entire life and for several years, he worked with the Rock County Road Department. Evan married Elizabeth Elaine Brown on July 19, 1942 at Bassett, Nebraska. They built a new home after their marriage, just across the drive from the house where he was born. To this union two boys were born and raised there until they went on their own. Evan was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Elaine who passed away September 29, 2009. Surviving family members include his two sons, Denny Lane and wife, Cindy and Larry Lane and wife, Phyllis all of Bassett; along with seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Evan passed away Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the Parkside Manor in Stuart, Nebraska at the age of 98 years, two months and 17 days. During his life, Evan had a love for music and could play many different instruments. He enjoyed playing at barn dances and other functions. He also had the opportunity to meet Lawrence Welk up in South Dakota. Graveside services were held at the Stuart Community Cemetery on July 22, 2015, with Pastor Wayne Owens officiating the service. Honorary Pallbearers were Chad Lane, Brandon Luetkenhaus, David Lane, Scott Lane, Rick Lane and Troy Graf. Memorials were suggested to the family in his name. Hoch Funeral Home of Bassett was in charge of the arrangements.
