Douglas E. Kuhre

Douglas E. Kuhre was born on December 20, 1952 to Loring and Beryl (Edwards)l Kuhre at Ainsworth, Nebraska. He married Carol Bussinger on November 10, 1973 at Bassett, Nebraska. To this union four daughters were born: Kara, Katie, Kimberly and Ki.

Doug and Carol made their home on the Kuhre ranch north of Johnstown, Nebraska on the Niobrara River. Doug started working at the Nature Conservancy in 1981. After 37 years of working at the Conservancy and on his ranch, he retired. After retiring, Doug and Carol enjoyed spending more time attending their grandchildren’s sporting events. Doug passed away at the Rock County Hospital in Bassett on August 13, 2023.

Doug was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Kimberly; his father, Loring; and his mother, Beryl; grandparents, Nilo and Ines Kuhre and Everett and Susan Edwards He is survived by his wife Carol of Ainsworth; daughters Kara Buechle (TC) of Wood Lake, Nebraska, Katie Painter (Clint) of Ainsworth, and Ki Kuhre (Jason) of Ainsworth; six grandchildren, Tagg, Kinsey and Trace Buechle, and Erin, Witten and Gracyn Painter; three sisters, Loretta Daniels of Emmet, Nebraska, Louree Chapman (Dean) of Lincoln, Nebraska and Becky Assarsson (Clinton) of Valentine, Nebraska; brothers-in-law Ernie Bussinger (Connie) of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Bill Bussinger (Norma) of Bassett; sisters-in-law, Connie Bussinger of Bassett, Sue Boltz of Lincoln and Meri Bussinger of Augusta, Georgia; along with many nieces, nephews and other family members.


Memorial Graveside Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 18, 2023 at Ainsworth Cemetery in Ainsworth, Nebraska with Pastor Michael Eurit officiating at the service. Honorary Urn Bearers listed were Erin Painter, Witten Painter, Gracyn Painter, Tagg Buechle, Kinsey Buechle and Trace Buechle. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.
