Dorothy Mae Freeman was the 11th child born to Bart and Leona (Thoman) Freeman on February 26th, 1927 in Cody, Nebraska. She passed away Saturday, February 14th, 2015 at Bryan Health Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska. Dorothy attended schools in Brown County, including Long Pine, Nebraska. She also worked at numerous cafe´s in Long Pine.
Dorothy married Frank Weander Jr. on August 6th, 1945 in Valentine, Nebraska. They owned and operated several businesses in Long Pine and Ainsworth. In 1956 they became proud parents of Stanley Eldon Weander. They resided in Ainsworth until 2001 when they moved to Valentine, and later moved into the Oakwood Assisted Living in Valentine.
Dorothy was active in keeping up with her husband Jr. and son Stan, but also found time to be involved with the Does Drove #54 which she was a member of. She was an awesome and dedicated bridge player as well as a fabulous cook. Dorothy and Jr. purchased Nebraska's Hidden Paradise in the early 60's, which they operated for several years. They also owned and operated the Golden Steer for many years. They helped raise their nephew Michael Freeman with his regular summer visits. Dorothy was a very special lady and took pride in keeping herself gorgeous. She also kept everything in immaculate condition.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ronald, Thomas, Eugene, Bart, James, William, Frank, Harold, Don, Robert, and Maynard; sisters, Hazel and Elsie Freeman. She is survived by her husband Jr. Weander of nearly 70 years; her son Stanley Weander; granddaughters, Sheena Weander, Lindsey (Weander) Smith and husband Grant, Bridget and Rachel Weander; Great-Grandkids, Mckenna and Elleigh; special nephew Michael Freeman and wife Jolene, and his family Krysta (Freeman) Molsen, Kade and Kraig Freeman. Also surviving are sisters, Helen (Freeman) Townsend and Leona (Freeman) Hagedorn. One brother, Ralph Freeman; sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Funeral Services were held on Saturday February 21, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Ainsworth, Nebraska with Pastor Eldon officiating the service. Music was provided by Sherry Campbell with Lisa Wiebesiek singing "In The Garden." A special CD selection of "When I Get Where I'm Going" by Brad Paisley and Dolly Parton was also provided. Pallbearers were, Gary Baxter, John Gross, Tim Iverson, Danny Daniels, Mark Shaul and Ken Smith. Honorary Bearers were, all of Dorothy's other family & friends. Burial was held at the Ainsworth Cemetery under the direction of Hoch Funeral Home of Ainsworth. Memorials were suggested to the Ainsworth Does Drove #54 in Dorothy's name.
