Doris “Dorie” Anderson Hughes, after recently celebrating her 99th birthday at the Rock County Care Center in Bassett, quietly and peacefully passed into her new life on April 27, 2022.
Dorie and her late husband “Bill” were married February 8, 1941 and raised their family in the Ainsworth area. Her life was joyfully dedicated to her husband and children – Charlie, Elaine and Lonnie; seven grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. Dorie loved her church, her bridge playing buddies, helping at the Does, participating in the American Legion Auxiliary and supporting the grandchildren in all sporting events from Ainsworth to Lincoln and even to Miami for a volleyball tournament.
Her second career of owning and operating the Koch Service Station in Johnstown allowed her to continue her devotion and friendship with family and friends of many years.
During her last years, Dorie thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated her residence at the Cottonwood Villa in Ainsworth. She remained active and involved with her bridge buddies, friends and activities that were so kindly, thoughtfully, and lovingly offered at the “Villa.”
Dorie was preceded in death by the love of her life, husband, “Bill;” son, Charlie; two grandchildren; three Anderson brothers, Bub, Neil and Wayne; and three sisters, Ione Schroeder, Lucille Keim and Bode Sorey (Raymond). She leaves to mourn her passing to her daughters, Elaine Davis of Clearwater, FL and Lonnie (Bill) Waters of Texarkana, TX; daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Hughes of Johnstown, NE; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and wonderful dear friends.
Funeral services were held May 5, 2022, at the Hoch Funeral Home in Ainsworth. Dorie’s celebration of life was led by Don Painter of Ainsworth. Special Remarks were given by Tiffani Naprstek and Shellayne Burkhart. The Alan Jackson CD Selections played were “Amazing Grace,” “How Great Thou Art,” “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” and “When We All Get To Heaven.” Casket Bearers were: Dawson Fox, Matthew Hughes, Steve Napr Casket Bearers were family members: Dan Fox, Dawson Fox, James Burkhart, Keegan Davis, Matthew Hughes, Steve Naprstek, Taylor Davis and Terry Carr.
