David Wayne McNally

David Wayne McNally of Springfield, MO was born on August 19, 1948 and passed away on July 17, 2024. Dave grew up in Ainsworth, NE with his parents Dale and Maxine (Shaul) and his brothers, Ron, Mike and Steve. He graduated from Kearney State College in 1970 and quickly started providing for his own family with his 50-year career as an accountant. He joined Countrymen Assoc. and then McDermott and Miller in Grand Island and Hastings. After becoming a partner, he moved his family to open an office in Cozad, NE in 1977. Dave eventually started his own practice as David W. McNally C.P.A for a long career of helping individuals and businesses with their financial goals. As he wound down his career, he partnered with Scott France to merge into France & McNally to make sure his clients had a smooth transition. He was always thinking of others and how he could take care of them or what he could do to make things easier for them. Dave was active in the Cozad community as a member of the Rotary Club, Planning Commission, Chamber of Commerce, First United Methodist Church and the United Way.

Dave was the most devoted father. He worked endless hours during the busy tax season to provide for his family, but was still always available for his children whenever they needed him. He was an inspiration to his kids and their spouses on how to be a parent. When Dave reconnected with a childhood classmate and married DiAnn (Moore) in June 2003, he gained his extended family. His love and devotion only expanded. His love of attending his kids’ activities swelled to watching his grandkids take to the stage, court, field or track. It didn’t matter what they did, he was there until he just physically couldn’t do it anymore. He was also a lifelong fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers through all the ups and downs, and he continued to pump Husker blood when they moved to Springfield, MO to enjoy their retirement.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Dale and Maxine (Shaul) McNally; his brothers, Ron, Mike and Steve McNally; his father-in-law Derald C. Moore and his beloved printed newspapers.

He will be greatly missed by those he left behind. He is survived by his wife, DiAnn (Moore) in Springfield MO, his mother-in-law Mary Ann Moore; sisters-in-law Cindy McNally, Donna Kegley and DeVonne Lytle all in Ainsworth NE; his children John (Kristen) McNally who are full-time travelers in the USA, Michele McNally (Scott Landholm) in Lawence KS, Kelly McNally-Cook (Matthew Cook) in Austin TX, Michelle (Gary) Chance in Bellevue NE, Kim (Chris) Noll in Fort Mill SC, Angie (Wes) Middleton in Kansas City MO, Gayle (Travis) Cordray in Mount Vernon MO and Neil (Heidi) Whitney in Council Bluffs IA. He also leaves behind his 25 cherished grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, and nieces, Karlie McNally, Denise Hancock and nephew, Jed McNally, and the enduring Ainsworth Star-Journal.
