Cynthia Lou (Marco) Lane

April 12, 1950 — August 5, 2024

Bassett, Nebraska

Cynthia “Cindy” Lou (Marco) Lane, 74, passed away on August 5, 2024 in Norfolk, Nebraska. Cindy was born in Palmer, Nebraska in 1950 to Max and Evelyn (Schrum) Marco. Cindy lived in Wolbach, Nebraska until the second grade at which time her family moved to Arcadia, Nebraska. She graduated in 1968 and then attended the Medical Institute of Minnesota, where she trained to become a Lab Technician. Upon graduating, Cindy moved to Bassett, Nebraska to begin her first job at the Rock County Hospital. Cindy then met her future husband, Denny Lane, after he returned from Vietnam in 1970. Denny and Cindy married on March 20, 1971 at Arcadia and had three children, Chad, Dawn and Emily. Cindy spent many years as a stay-at-home mother before returning to the workforce as a dispatcher for the Rock County Sheriff’s Office and then again as a lab technician at Rock County Hospital. They resided in Newport, Nebraska until they became empty nesters and then moved to Bassett. Cindy was very outgoing and had a larger-than-life personality. Cindy’s family and friends all remember her as a pillar of strength. She always had a smile on her face and a funny joke to tell. She loved making people laugh.

Cindy had a passion for decorating her yard and home for all seasons and holidays. She was the biggest fan of Husker volleyball and football and also rooted for the family’s team, the Green Bay Packers. Cindy‘s favorite show was Mash. She loved her animals too. For many years, Cindy along with her daughters, daughter-in-law, sister and friends would take annual girls trips. Cindy still attended her high school reunions and loved catching up with her old classmates. Cindy belonged to many groups and organizations in the community. She was an active member of the Bassett Methodist Church. Cindy also loved spending time with her friends and attended multiple coffee groups throughout the week. Cindy absolutely adored her two grandsons and loved attending their events. Cindy will be greatly missed. Her family takes comfort in knowing how many lives she has touched.

Cindy was preceded in death by her father and mother, Max and Evelyn; her in-laws, Evan and Elaine Lane; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Lane. She is survived by her husband, Denny of Bassett; her three children, Chad (wife, Jill) Lane of Ord, Nebraska, Dawn (husband, Michael) Kastens of Lincoln, Nebraska and Emily (husband, Brandon) Luetkenhaus of Omaha, Nebraska; her two grandsons, Owen Lane of Fairbanks, Alaska (Eielson Air Force Base) and Evan Lane of Ord; her younger sister, Sally of Bassett; and her brother-in-law, Larry Lane of Bassett; along with nieces, nephews and other family members.
