Carole M. (Gilliland) Witt

Carole Marie (Gilliland) Witt, was born on December 10, 1944 in Ainsworth, NE to Ralph and Delia (Morton) Gilliland.  Carole passed away Friday, March 29, 2024, at the age of 79, surrounded by loving family at her daughter’s home in Valentine, NE. She succumbed to an ongoing battle with Parkinson’s disease.    

Carole attended school in Ainsworth where she met her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Michael Dean Witt.  In August of 1962 while Mike was home on leave from the US Navy, they were married and began their life together, living in Long Pine, NE.  On December 26, 1975, they happily welcomed daughter, Michelle Marie.  In 1983, Mike was transferred to Valentine, where they made their home until his death.  

Carole was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years, Mike Witt; parents, Ralph and Delia Gilliland; brothers, Luke Scholtes and Ted Gilliland; sisters-in-law, Frieda Scholtes and Glenda Gilliland; and brothers-in-law, Delbert Fullerton and Ken Smith.

 Survivors include her daughter, Michelle of Valentine; grandchildren, Dylan, Daniel, and Peyton all of Valentine; sisters, Barbara Fullerton of Gothenburg, NE and Jeanne Smith of Ainsworth along with other family members. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Funeral Services were held Monday, April 29, 2024 at Hoch Funeral Home in Ainsworth, officiated by Father Mike Wetovick.  CD selections of “Lead Me Home” by James Johnson and “Go On Without Me” by Brent Eldridge were played within the service.  The obituary was read by Payton Moore.  Special memories were given by Lori Onstad, Chuck Scholtes and Tailey Koubek.   Inurnment followed in the Ainsworth Cemetery.  Memorials were suggested to the family in Carole’s name for future designation.  Hoch Funeral Home of Ainsworth was in charge of arrangements and condolences may be left for the family at www.hochfuneralhome.com
