Allen Ray Baragar was born on March 2, 1963 at Chadron, Nebraska to Alvin Ray and Helen Louise (Roberts) Baragar, the first of three sons. He passed away at Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, Nebraska on January 12, 2022 at the age of 58 years.
Allen started grade school in Hay Springs, Nebraska before the family moved to Valentine, Nebraska where he attended grade school through the fourth grade. Allen was baptized into the Baptist Church in Valentine during a ceremony at the Niobrara River by Pastor Deweyhicky. The family then moved to Ainsworth, Nebraska where he attended McAndrew Elementary beginning the fifth grade. Allen was in Cub and Boy Scouts during his school years. He attended Ainsworth High School, graduating in 1981.
Allen's first job was with Guy Boller. He worked at a lumber yard briefly before he went to work for Russell Eichenberger for whom he was working in 1988 when he began dating Shiela Stufft. They were married on August 12, 1989. In 1992, a son, Logan was born. Allen began to be self-employed that same year until 2020. The family did a lot of camping and scouting activities. Allen was the Cub and Boy Scout Leader for most of his son's scouting years. He was proud of his son's Eagle Scout badge. Allen belonged to muzzleloader clubs in Nebraska and the High Plains Regional Rendezvous. He was the Boosway of the HPRR in 2006, a five-state regional event. In 2019 Allen and Shiela were named UNMLA Muzzleloaders of the Year.
Allen's had many hobbies that included woodworking, carving, muzzleloading, hunting, cooking and camping.
Those preceding Allen in death were his father; maternal grandparents Richard M. Roberts and Dorothy (Skoglund) Roberts; paternal grandparents Charles W. Baragar and Lillian (Thomas) Baragar along with various aunts, uncles and cousins.
Allen is survived by his wife of 32 years Shiela of Ainsworth; son, Logan of Ainsworth; mother, Helen Baragar of Onawa, Iowa; brothers, Rodney (Shawntel) Baragar of Soldier, Iowa and Bradley (Nicola) Baragar of Ormond Beach, Florida; along with numerous other family members.
Funeral Services were held on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at the Evangelical Free Church in Ainsworth, Nebraska with Pastor Charles Kieffer and Pastor Shawn Gothard officiating at the service. The CD Selections of “How Great Thou Art” by Alan Jackson, “Long Black Train” by Josh Turner and “The Parting Glass” by Face Vocal Band were played. Interment followed at the Ainsworth Cemetery in Ainsworth, Nebraska. Casket Bearers were: Vern Larson, Rick Mayfield, Bill Jeffrey, Rodney Laudenklos, Doug Bazyn and Phil Tripe. Honorary Casket Bearers were: all of Allen’s other muzzleloader friends. Memorials were suggested to the family in Allen’s name for future designation.
