Russell Wayne Hensley Jr., age 57, died at home at Johnstown, Nebraska on December 2, 2021 with his family and loved ones by his side on after battling two years of ALS, (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Wayne went to Heaven to be with the good Lord.
Russell was born September 16, 1964 to Russell Wayne Hensley Sr. and Naomi (New) Cook. He was born in Alamosa, Colorado. They lived in Mosca, Colorado where Wayne attended grade school and high school. After graduating from high school, Wayne went to Pueblo Community College and earned a degree with diesel mechanics. After college, Wayne became a truck driver.
In June of 1994, Wayne met Rose Gunter and they were married on May 27, 1995 in Monte Vista, Colorado and he inherited three stepchildren, Sherry Disney, Gregory Gunter and Garold Gunter. Wayne continued to drive a truck and Rose was a nurse.
Then in August 2000, Wayne and Rose moved to Johnstown where they raised cattle, sheep, hogs and horses and Wayne drove his truck. Wayne, also known as Papa, taught his grandchildren everything they needed to know about a truck, how to break a horse to ride and to A.I. a cow, and he always had very, very long conversations on what bulls to buy to breed the cows. When feeding the cows, Papa always has someone with him. When on the short hauls with the truck, Papa always had someone with him and McDonalds was always a stopping point. We will miss Christmas with him coming home in on the truck.
Russell was preceded in death by his father; and a brother, Rodger Hensley. He is survived by his wife Rose Ann Hensley of Johnstown; mother Naomi Cook of Mosca; sister-in-law Jackie Hensley of Oklahoma; stepchildren Sherry (James) Disney of Johnstown, Gregory (Mya) Gunter of Mosca and Garold (April) Gunter of Del Norte, Colorado; a niece Amanda (Jason) Williams of Alamosa; along with12 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, four great-nieces.
